Odyssey uses AI for the new Ai-DUAL putters to improve ball speed and putting precision through smart insert design.
Odyssey, a subsidiary of Callaway, has expanded its putter line with the new Ai-DUAL models, combining material innovation and novel design. At the core is the Ai-DUAL Insert, a two-layered urethane element developed using Artificial Intelligence, featuring a soft outer layer and a firmer inner layer. It aims to provide consistent ball speed across the entire face and improved forward spin. The insert is complemented by the new Forward Roll Design (FRD) groove, with a 19-degree incline deeper than previous models, to promote a more even forward roll across the face.
Entry-Level Models Also Developed with AI
The Ai-DUAL putters come in various configurations. Standard models have a lightweight steel shaft with a counterweight at the grip end to stabilize the stroke. For players preferring a different balance, Odyssey offers Cruiser variants with heavier heads, longer and heavier shafts, and longer grips.
The Odyssey Ai-DUAL Square 2 as a Zero-Torque Putter
An extension of the line is the Ai-DUAL Square 2 Square putters, featuring a modern, mid-shaft design. This positions the shaft below the center of gravity, causing the putter to rest slightly upward at the tip, achieving the ‘Zero Torque’ effect. This design keeps the face relatively square during the stroke. These models also have a preset two-degree forward shaft lean to prevent accidental face opening during forward hand pressure. A specially developed reverse-taper grip compensates for this preset, allowing comfortable, parallel alignment of the grip and face.
