Odyssey employs AI in its new Ai-DUAL putters to boost ball speed and putting precision through intelligent insert design.
Odyssey, a subsidiary of Callaway, has expanded its putter lineup with the new Ai-DUAL models, focusing on a combination of material innovation and novel design. At the heart of these putters is the Ai-DUAL Insert, a two-layer urethane element developed with artificial intelligence. It features a soft outer layer and a firmer inner layer to promote consistent ball speed across the face and enhanced forward roll. Complementing the insert is the new Forward Roll Design (FRD) groove, deeper and more pronounced at a 19-degree angle than previous models, designed to improve forward roll consistency across the entire face.
Entry-Level Models Also Developed with AI
The Ai-DUAL putters come in various configurations. Standard models feature a lightweight steel shaft with a counterweight at the grip end to stabilize the stroke. For players preferring a different balance, Odyssey offers Cruiser variants with heavier heads, longer and heavier shafts, and longer grips.
The Odyssey Ai-DUAL Square 2 as a Zero-Torque Putter
An extension of the line is the Ai-DUAL Square 2 Square putters, featuring a modern, center-shafted design. This positions the shaft below the center of gravity, causing the putter to rest slightly upward on the toe, achieving a ‘Zero Torque’ effect. This construction keeps the face more square through the stroke. Additionally, these models have a slight two-degree forward shaft lean pre-installed to prevent accidental face opening during the forward press of the hands. A specially developed reverse-taper grip compensates for this setup, enabling comfortable, parallel alignment of the grip and face.
With the new Ai-DUAL models, Odyssey pursues an approach that merges technology, materials, and design aiming to enhance consistency and precision in putting. Both the classic and Square 2 Square models demonstrate that the company embraces innovative methods alongside traditional elements to optimize putting performance.
