Membership Renewed, No Suspension: Koepka Returns to the PGA Tour

First start already at the Farmers, Vijay Singh wants to compete again, Charley Hull soon on YouTube. The Back Nine.

As expected, Brooks Koepka has officially withdrawn from the 2026 LIV Golf League season starting February 7 in Riyadh; the five-time major champion will stay connected to the competing circuit but needs more time for his family. This was a mutual agreement, according to LIV CEO Scott McNeil. Koepka is known as a competitor who thrives in high-level competition, which he lacked at LIV. He joined LIV in 2022 primarily due to injury doubts about continuing his career and to secure a substantial retirement payout. Therefore, skipping the final contractual season is not surprising, though questions remain whether he had to buy out or pay back part of his guaranteed salary. He remains the owner of LIV team Smash GC, which recently appointed Talor Gooch as captain.

Speculations abound where Koepka will play next. On the DP World Tour he would be immediately eligible, possibly with a penalty. On the PGA Tour, he faces a one-year suspension after his last LIV appearance, reduced from a lifetime ban by former commissioner Jay Monahan. It seems unlikely to hold grudges as all LIV returnees, especially prominent ones, benefit the PGA Tour. ESPN journalist Mark Schlabach reported Koepka formally requested reinstatement to the PGA Tour last Friday, seeking to reactivate his membership that ended in 2022.

Any suspension would end by August, coinciding with the 2026 season conclusion at the Tour Championship from August 27–30. Koepka would be eligible for 2027 under the new PGA Tour schedule of about two dozen $20-million tournaments featuring limited star fields, an ideal comeback time for him. PGA Tour Enterprises investors would surely appreciate another strong name.

Jon Rahm recently said on the podcast \”Subpar\” that Koepka likely needs some time but will return to the PGA Tour, playing selective big tournaments. The player directors and the competition committee led by Tiger Woods have a say on suspensions, with Rory McIlroy recommending Koepka be allowed to play immediately. A majority of fans support this, according to a non-representative \”Bunkered\” survey.

Update: The news spread quickly that Koepka is immediately eligible to play on the PGA Tour and will tee off at the Farmers Insurance Open in Torrey Pines at the end of January. Participation at the WM Phoenix Open in Scottsdale, Arizona is confirmed. This is enabled by the newly introduced \”Returning Member Program,\” allowing selected LIV players to regain PGA Tour membership without suspension.
