Membership Renewed, No Suspension: Koepka Returns to PGA Tour

First start already at the Farmers, Vijay Singh wants another shot, Charley Hull soon on YouTube. The Back Nine.

As expected, Brooks Koepka has withdrawn from the 2026 LIV Golf season starting February 7 in Riyadh; the five-time major winner remains connected to the rival circuit but needs more time for his family. This was mutually agreed upon, according to LIV CEO Scott McNeil’s official statement. Koepka is a competitor who thrives on high-level competition, which he found limited at LIV Golf. He joined LIV in 2022 mainly due to injury concerns and to secure a solid retirement fund. Thus, skipping the final contracted season is not surprising, though questions remain about any buyout or repayment of guaranteed earnings. The 35-year-old remains owner of the LIV team Smash GC, which named Talor Gooch as its new captain.

Speculation is rife about where Koepka will play next. He is immediately eligible for the DP World Tour, possibly with a penalty fee, or the PGA Tour, where he would serve a one-year suspension after his last LIV appearance. However, suspensions have been significantly eased, and re-entry of prominent LIV players benefits the PGA Tour. ESPN journalist Mark Schlabach reported Koepka formally applied last Friday to reactivate his PGA Tour membership that was not renewed after 2022.

Any suspension would end in August, coinciding with the 2026 Tour Championship from August 27-30. Koepka would be eligible for the 2027 season, which will feature a compressed schedule of approximately two dozen $20 million tournaments with limited, highly competitive fields, perfectly timed for his comeback. Investors in PGA Tour Enterprises would welcome such a marquee name.

\”He may need some time, but I think he’ll return to the PGA Tour,\” said Jon Rahm recently on the \”Subpar\” podcast. \”He’ll probably play the minimum and the big tournaments he likes. If he qualifies for majors or other premier events, he would play those too.\” Influential bodies including player directors and the Tiger Woods-led competition committee have influence on suspension decisions, reportedly following Rory McIlroy’s recommendation to let Koepka play immediately. A majority of fans also support this, according to a non-representative poll by \”Bunkered\” magazine.

Update: As expected, Koepka’s immediate reinstatement to the PGA Tour was announced. He will compete at the Farmers Insurance Open in late January at Torrey Pines and is confirmed for the WM Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale. This was enabled by a newly introduced \”Returning Member Program\” allowing selected LIV players to reinstate membership without suspension.
