Membership Renewed, No Suspension: Koepka Officially Back on PGA Tour

First start already at Farmers, Vijay Singh returns to competition, Charley Hull to launch YouTube channel soon. The Back Nine.

As expected, Brooks Koepka has withdrawn from the 2026 LIV Golf season starting February 7 in Riyadh; the five-time major winner remains connected to the rival circuit but needs more time for family. This was amicably agreed upon, according to LIV CEO Scott McNeil’s official statement. Koepka, a competitor who thrives on top-level contests, was less motivated at LIV and had switched mainly because of injury concerns and to secure a lucrative retirement fund. Questions remain whether he had to buy out his last contractual year or repay part of the guaranteed fee, and if he remains owner of his LIV team Smash GC, led by Talor Gooch.

Speculation grows regarding which tour Koepka will appear on next: the DP World Tour, where he would become immediately eligible—probably facing a penalty—or the PGA Tour, where he must serve a one-year suspension following his last LIV event, after life bans were softened by former Commissioner Jay Monahan. Why be vengeful when every LIV returnee benefits the established Tour? ESPN journalist Mark Schlabach reported Koepka formally applied last Friday to reactivate his PGA Tour membership, which wasn’t extended after 2022, seeking reinstatement into the players’ circle.

Perfect timing for a comeback, matching Koepka’s style. This would also appeal to investors at PGA Tour Enterprises, backing the new premier league.

Even Jon Rahm recently expressed confidence in the podcast ‘Subpar’ that Koepka will return to the PGA Tour, likely playing at least the minimum and probably big tournaments he favors. The disciplinary committee, led by Tiger Woods, and player directors may grant leniency, following Rory McIlroy’s recommendation to let Koepka play immediately.

Update:It happened: On Monday evening local time, news spread rapidly that Koepka regained PGA Tour eligibility effective immediately and will tee off at the Farmers Insurance Open late January at Torrey Pines. His participation at the WM Phoenix Open in Scottsdale, Arizona, is confirmed.

This is enabled by a new rule, the ‘Returning Member Program,’ introduced last Thursday, allowing select LIV players to rejoin the PGA Tour without suspension. Koepka’s recent sporting merits, especially his 2023 PGA Championship as a fifth major, were acknowledged.

The PGA Tour states this special provision applies only to major and Players winners in the past three years, ending February 2. Brian Rolapp, PGA Tour CEO, called it a unique opportunity, not setting precedent, with no guarantee for future availability. This likely impacts Jon Rahm, Bryson DeCh
