As expected, Brooks Koepka has withdrawn from the 2026 LIV Golf season starting February 7 in Riyadh; the five-time major winner will remain connected to the rival circuit but needs more time for family. This amicable agreement was officially stated by LIV CEO Scott McNeil. Koepka, a competitor who thrives on high-level competition, found limited motivation at LIV. His 2022 move to LIV was mainly because of injury concerns and to secure a substantial retirement fund. Given that, his decision to skip his final contract year is not surprising, though questions remain about financial aspects and his ownership of the LIV team Smash GC, now captained by Talor Gooch.
Speculation abounds about where Koepka will play next: DP World Tour granting immediate eligibility, possibly with a penalty? Or PGA Tour, where he faces a one-year suspension from his last LIV event, though lifetime bans by former commissioner Monahan were softened? The PGA Tour seems welcoming, especially with prominent LIV players returning. According to ESPN’s Mark Schlabach, Koepka formally applied last Friday to reinstate his PGA Tour membership, which had lapsed after 2022.
