As expected, Brooks Koepka has withdrawn from the 2026 LIV Golf season starting February 7 in Riyadh; the five-time major champion remains connected to the rival circuit but needs more time for family. This was amicably agreed upon, according to LIV CEO Scott McNeil. Koepka is a competitive type who thrives in high-level competition, which he found limited at LIV. He initially joined LIV in 2022 due to injury concerns and to secure a solid retirement fund. Thus, skipping the last contracted season is not surprising, although questions remain about potential buyouts or salary repayments. Koepka remains owner of the LIV team Smash GC, now captained by Talor Gooch.
Speculation is rife about where Koepka will play next — the DP World Tour, where he could play immediately likely with a penalty, or the PGA Tour, where a one-year suspension applies from his last LIV event though the lifetime bans were softened. Significantly, according to ESPN journalist Mark Schlabach, Koepka formally requested reinstatement of his PGA Tour membership last Friday, aiming to rejoin the player pool after his membership lapsed post-2022.
