As expected, Brooks Koepka has withdrawn from the 2026 LIV Golf season starting February 7 in Riyadh; the five-time major champion remains connected to the rival circuit but needs more time for family. This was reportedly agreed upon amicably, according to LIV CEO Scott McNeil. Koepka is known as a competitor who thrives in high-level competition, which he found limited in LIV. He originally joined LIV in 2022 due to injuries threatening his career and to secure retirement earnings. So his skipping the final contracted season is not surprising, though questions linger about any buyout or repayment. He remains owner of LIV team Smash GC, now captained by Talor Gooch.
Speculation is rife about where Koepka will compete next: the DP World Tour, granting immediate eligibility possibly after penalty fees, or the PGA Tour, where he faces a one-year suspension from his last LIV appearance with prior lifetime bans softened. Returning LIV players, especially prominent ones, benefit the PGA Tour’s leverage. ESPN journalist Mark Schlabach reported that Koepka formally applied last Friday to reinstate his PGA Tour membership, ending his post-2022 hiatus.
