As expected, Brooks Koepka has officially opted out of the 2026 LIV Golf season starting February 7 in Riyadh; the five-time major winner remains connected to the rival circuit but needs more family time, according to LIV CEO Scott McNeil’s official statement. Koepka, known as a competitor who thrives on high-level tournaments, was less motivated in LIV. He joined LIV in 2022 mainly due to injury concerns and to secure a retirement fund. Questions remain whether he paid buyouts or returned guaranteed money and if he remains an owner of LIV team Smash GC, now captained by Talor Gooch.
Speculations arise about where Koepka will compete next: immediately eligible on the DP World Tour, possibly with a penalty? Or on the PGA Tour, serving a one-year suspension from his last LIV appearance now softened from an original lifetime ban? According to ESPN’s Mark Schlabach, Koepka formally requested reinstatement to the PGA Tour last Friday.
