As expected, Brooks Koepka has officially withdrawn from the LIV Golf League’s 2026 season, starting February 7 in Riyadh. The five-time major champion will remain connected to the rival circuit but needs more time for his family, according to LIV CEO Scott McNeil’s amicable statement. Koepka, known as a competitor who thrives in high-level tournaments, was less motivated in LIV and initially joined in 2022 anticipating his career ending due to injury, seeking financial security for retirement. His opt-out of the final contract year raises questions about buyouts or repayments. He remains owner of his LIV team Smash GC, who appointed Talor Gooch as new captain.
Speculation is rife about which tours Koepka will appear on next—the DP World Tour, granting immediate eligibility likely with a penalty, or the PGA Tour where he faces a one-year suspension following LIV participation, recently reduced from a lifetime ban. According to ESPN’s Mark Schlabach, Koepka formally applied last Friday to reactivate his PGA Tour membership and rejoin the player roster.
