As expected, Brooks Koepka has withdrawn from the 2026 LIV Golf League season starting February 7 in Riyadh; the five-time major winner will remain connected to the rival circuit but needs more time for his family. This was reportedly agreed upon amicably, according to LIV CEO Scott McNeil’s official statement. Koepka, a competitor who thrives on top-level competition, hasn’t been fully motivated at LIV. He joined LIV in 2022 mainly due to injury concerns about his career’s end and to secure a substantial retirement fund. Thus, skipping the last contract year is unsurprising, though questions remain about possible buyouts or repayment of guaranteed fees. He remains the owner of LIV team Smash GC, which recently appointed Talor Gooch as captain.
Speculation is rife about which tours Koepka will play on next—DP World Tour, where he would be immediately eligible, perhaps with a penalty, or PGA Tour where he must serve a one-year suspension after his last LIV appearance, following significant reductions of lifetime bans imposed by former commissioner Jay Monahan. The key question seems partially answered: ESPN reporter Mark Schlabach revealed Koepka formally applied last Friday to reactivate his PGA Tour membership after it was not renewed post-2022, seeking re-entry to the player pool.
