Predictably, Brooks Koepka has officially withdrawn from the 2026 LIV Golf season, starting February 7 in Riyadh; the five-time major winner remains connected to the rival circuit but needs more family time. This was reportedly amicably agreed upon, according to LIV CEO Scott McNeil. Koepka is a competitor who thrives on high-level competition, which he found limited at LIV. Initially, in 2022, he switched largely due to injury concerns and the opportunity to secure a substantial retirement fund. Hence, skipping the final contract year is not surprising, although questions remain about financial settlements and his status as owner of the LIV team Smash GC, now led by Talor Gooch.
Speculation mainly revolves around which tour Koepka will join next—DP World Tour, where immediate playing rights are possible possibly with a penalty, or the PGA Tour, where he faces a one-year ban since his last LIV event, following the easing of previously lifetime bans by former commissioner Jay Monahan. This key question seems partially answered. ESPN journalist Mark Schlabach reported that Koepka formally applied last Friday to reactivate his PGA Tour membership, which was not extended after 2022, seeking reinstatement.
