As expected, Brooks Koepka has officially withdrawn from the 2026 season of the LIV Golf League, starting February 7 in Riyadh; the five-time major winner remains connected to the rival circuit but needs more time for his family. This was mutually agreed upon, according to LIV CEO Scott McNeil’s official statement. Koepka is a competitor who thrives and gets motivated during high-level sports confrontations, which was somewhat limited during his time at LIV. He originally joined LIV in 2022 mainly because injuries threatened to end his career early and he wanted to secure a solid retirement fund. Considering this, his decision to skip the final contractual season is not surprising, though questions remain: Did he have to buy out his contract or return part of the guaranteed money? Does the 35-year-old remain an owner of the LIV team Smash GC, which already appointed Talor Gooch as its new captain?
Speculation is rife about where Koepka will appear next. The DP World Tour would grant him immediate playing rights, possibly subject to a penalty payment. Alternatively, returning to the PGA Tour would mean serving a one-year suspension following his last LIV appearance, as the previously imposed lifetime bans by former Commissioner Jay Monahan have been significantly softened. Why hold grudges when every LIV returnee, especially a prominent one, actually benefits the already dominant PGA Tour? This crucial question seems partly answered. According to ESPN journalist Mark Schlabach, Koepka formally applied last Friday to reactivate his PGA Tour membership, which was not renewed after 2022, seeking reinstatement.
