As expected, Brooks Koepka has withdrawn from the 2026 LIV Golf season starting February 7 in Riyadh; the five-time major champion intends to remain linked to the rival circuit but needs more family time. LIV CEO Scott McNeil officially stated this was a mutual agreement. Koepka, a competitor who thrives on high-level competition, was less motivated at LIV events. He initially joined LIV in 2022 partly due to injury concerns and to secure retirement funding. His skipping the final contracted season raises questions: did he buy out his contract or repay part of his guaranteed fee? Does he remain owner of LIV team Smash GC, now captained by Talor Gooch?
Speculation is rife on which tours Koepka will appear next: the DP World Tour where he is immediately eligible, likely with a penalty, or the PGA Tour where he faces a one-year suspension following his last LIV event, after former commissioner Jay Monahan reduced lifetime bans. Why spite anyone when reacquiring LIV players benefits the longer-established tours? ESPN journalist Mark Schlabach reported Koepka formally applied last Friday to reinstate his PGA Tour membership not renewed after 2022.
