Membership Renewed, No Ban: Koepka Back on the PGA Tour Immediately

First start already at the Farmers, Vijay Singh wants to compete again, Charley Hull soon on YouTube. The Back Nine.

As expected, Brooks Koepka has withdrawn from the 2026 LIV Golf season starting February 7 in Riyadh; the five-time major winner will remain connected to the competing circuit but needs more time for family. This was amicably agreed upon, according to LIV CEO Scott McNeil. Koepka is a competitor who thrives on high-level competition, which he found limited in LIV. He originally joined LIV in 2022 due to injury concerns and to secure a solid retirement fund. His decision to forgo the last contractual season is therefore not surprising, though questions remain about buyouts or salary repayments. He remains owner of LIV team Smash GC, with Talor Gooch as the new captain.

Speculation surrounds which fairways Koepka will soon appear on: the DP World Tour, where he would be immediately eligible—possibly with a penalty—or the PGA Tour, where he faces a one-year suspension since his last LIV appearance, after life bans were softened. According to ESPN journalist Mark Schlabach, Koepka formally applied last Friday to reactivate his PGA Tour membership and rejoin the players’ circle.

An eventual suspension would end in August, coinciding with the conclusion of the 2026 PGA Tour season. Koepka would be eligible to play in 2027 under the new PGA Tour schedule featuring about two dozen $20-million tournaments with limited fields—a perfect re-entry timing. This move would also please investors in PGA Tour Enterprises who would welcome another marquee name.

Jon Rahm recently expressed in the \”Subpar\” podcast that Koepka will likely return to the PGA Tour, probably playing the minimum and selective big tournaments, with hopeful allowances made given his status. The PGA Tour’s new \”Returning Member Program,\” created last Thursday, permits select LIV players to rejoin without suspension, considering Koepka’s recent sporting merits, including his 2023 PGA Championship win.

Update: It has happened: Koepka is immediately eligible for the PGA Tour and will tee off at the Farmers Insurance Open end of January in Torrey Pines, with the WM Phoenix Open participation also confirmed. He must donate $5 million to the PGA Tour charity, is excluded from the 2026 FedEx Cup bonus and the 5-year capital participation program.
