As expected, Brooks Koepka has officially withdrawn from the 2026 LIV Golf season starting February 7 in Riyadh; the five-time major champion will remain connected to the rival circuit but needs more time for family. LIV CEO Scott McNeil confirmed a friendly agreement. Koepka, a competitive type energized by high-level competition, had limited motivation at LIV. He originally joined LIV in 2022 thinking his career was ending due to injuries and to secure a substantial retirement fund. His decision not to play the last contracted season is not surprising, though questions remain about potential buyouts or repayments. He remains the owner of LIV team Smash GC, with Talor Gooch now captain.
Speculations abound about where Koepka will play next: the DP World Tour, where he would be immediately eligible, possibly with a penalty; or the PGA Tour, where he would face a one-year ban after his last LIV event, softened from previous lifetime bans by former Commissioner Jay Monahan. This question seems partially answered. According to ESPN journalist Mark Schlabach, Koepka formally applied last Friday to reactivate his PGA Tour membership and rejoin the playing field.
