As expected, Brooks Koepka has withdrawn from the 2026 LIV Golf season starting February 7 in Riyadh; the five-time major champion remains connected to the rival circuit but needs more family time. This was reportedly agreed amicably, according to LIV CEO Scott McNeil’s official statement. Koepka is a competitive type who thrives in top-level competitions, something he felt only limitedly at LIV. He originally switched to LIV in 2022 due to injury concerns threatening his career and to secure a solid retirement fund. Therefore, skipping the final contracted season is not surprising, though questions remain about any potential buyout or repayments. Koepka also retains ownership of his LIV team Smash GC, which named Talor Gooch as captain.
Speculation abounds on where Koepka will play next: the DP World Tour, where he would be eligible immediately possibly after a penalty payment, or the PGA Tour, where he faces a one-year suspension from his last LIV appearance, softened from previous lifetime bans. This key question has partly been answered. ESPN journalist Mark Schlabach reported that Koepka formally applied last Friday to reinstate his PGA Tour membership, which was not renewed after 2022.
