All three players finish strong at the 18th hole, delivering what fans came to see at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
There are moments in professional golf when everything aligns perfectly—when skill, course conditions, and pure execution converge to produce exactly what spectators hope to witness. Such was the case at the 18th hole during the opening round of the PGA Tour event at Pebble Beach Golf Links this week.
Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, and Justin Thomas each found the green on the par-4 finishing hole and, remarkably, each converted their birdie opportunities. The coordinated finish gave fans exactly what they came to see.
## A Dramatic Finish
Thomas played first from the group, rolling his approach shot smoothly onto the green. Though his initial strike lacked conviction, the ball found its way to approximately 7.5 feet from the cup. Woods, playing shortly after, struck his approach from 151 yards and landed roughly 10 feet short of the pin. His ball hopped forward and settled some five feet away—a prime birdie look.
McIlroy, competing as the defending champion of this event, played from 151 yards on the right edge of the fairway. His shot faded gently toward the flag and came to rest approximately 10 feet away, giving him a reasonable chance at birdie to close his round.
What followed was clutch execution. Thomas rolled his putt smoothly into the cup for birdie, climbing to four under par for the round. Woods converted next, his putt tracking dead center into the hole, finishing with a two-under par 69. McIlroy completed the sequence, dropping his putt for birdie and posting a four-under par 67.
## The Perfect Closing Act
In tournament golf, such coordinated success among three players in a single group is uncommon. Each birdie represented not only individual execution but also strategic course management at Pebble Beach’s most iconic hole. The gallery witnessed precisely the caliber of play that defines professional tournament golf at its highest level.
The moment served as a reminder that at major venues like Pebble Beach, where the PGA Tour stages its prestigious pro-am event, the world’s best golfers regularly deliver performances that justify their standing in the sport.
