Justin Thomas has undergone back surgery and will be sidelined for now. It’s unclear when the two-time major winner will return.
Disc Issues Force Justin Thomas to Pause 2026 Season
Two-time major champion Justin Thomas will miss the start of the 2026 season after undergoing back surgery. The 32-year-old American announced that he will skip several tournaments early in the year to recover from a microdiscectomy.
Thomas, who hasn’t played since the Ryder Cup, shared on social media that he had been dealing with persistent hip pain for months. “After some time off and worsening symptoms, an MRI showed I had a disc problem that needed to be treated,” he explained. “I’ll be resting a lot over the next few weeks before starting rehab. I’ve got a great team behind me that I fully trust to get me back better than ever.” He also stated that he is not setting a return date yet to focus on a full recovery.
Strong 2025 Season Cut Short by Injury
The injury comes as a setback for Thomas, who had a strong 2025 season. Ranked eighth in the world, he played 21 PGA Tour events before the Ryder Cup, securing one win, three runner-up finishes, and eight top-10 placements.
