Justin Thomas Undergoes Back Surgery, to Miss Early 2026 Season

Justin Thomas has undergone back surgery and will miss the start of the 2026 season. His return date remains uncertain.

Disc Issues Sideline Justin Thomas

Two-time major champion Justin Thomas is facing a setback after undergoing back surgery and is expected to miss several tournaments at the beginning of the 2026 season.

The 32-year-old American has not played since the 2025 Ryder Cup. “I’ve had some nagging hip pain for a handful of months, and after some time off and worsening symptoms, an MRI showed I had a disc problem that needed to be treated,” Thomas shared on social media. “I’ll be resting a lot over the next few weeks before starting rehab. I have a great team behind me that I fully trust to get me back in better shape than before.”

Thomas emphasized that he does not want to set a specific return date yet, choosing instead to focus on a full recovery without pressure.

Strong 2025 Season Cut Short

Ranked eighth in the world, Thomas had been enjoying a strong 2025 season before the injury. He played in 21 PGA Tour events, securing one victory, three runner-up finishes, and eight top-10 placements. His absence will be felt as the 2026 season kicks off, with fans and analysts alike hoping for a strong comeback once he’s fully recovered.
