John Daly Eyes 2027 Ryder Cup Role, Endorses Tiger Woods as Captain

John Daly hopes to join the 2027 Ryder Cup team and praises Tiger Woods as a potential U.S. captain.

In an exclusive interview with Hard Rock Bet, John Daly shared his aspirations of being part of the U.S. Ryder Cup team in 2027. Despite being a two-time major champion, Daly remains the only major winner since the event’s inception in 1927 to have never played in the Ryder Cup. At 59, Daly acknowledges that his chances of being named captain at Adare Manor in Ireland are slim, but he remains hopeful about contributing in some capacity.

Tiger Woods as Captain: Daly’s Dream Scenario

“I would love to be a captain someday, but it’s probably never going to happen,” Daly admitted. Still, he expressed enthusiasm about the idea of Tiger Woods leading the team. “Tiger would be an incredible captain,” Daly said, adding that he would love to be a co-captain or have any role within the team. Daly believes a pairing of Woods and himself could bring a relaxed and spirited energy to the squad.

“I’d love to bring in my ideas and hopefully help the guys,” Daly said. “It would be a dream come true, something I’ve wanted since I won the PGA Championship in 1991.” He also shared that he felt he deserved to be selected for the team on two occasions, but “it just didn’t happen.”

Patriotism and Team Unity Drive Daly

For Daly, being part of the Ryder Cup team in any form would be a meaningful consolation, especially given his deep patriotism. “I think our team just needs to come together more like a family and fully support the United States of America instead of focusing on personal gain,” he said. “I just want to win the Ryder Cup.”

John Daly remains one of the most beloved figures in American golf, known for his booming drives and colorful personality. He captured two major titles: the 1991 PGA Championship and the 1995 Open Championship. Despite his fame and success, Daly has never played in a Ryder Cup, making him a unique figure in golf history. His outspoken patriotism and unconventional style—drinking beer and chain-smoking during his first major—have only added to his legend.
