KPop Demon Hunters was 2025’s most watched Netflix film. Coming in second is a golf movie.
Fans waited 30 years for the sequel, and last year it finally arrived: Happy Gilmore 2 premiered on Netflix, starring Adam Sandler with numerous star appearances. After the original became a cult classic over the years, the time was right for a reboot. And the wait paid off, as the film became one of the most successful Netflix movies of the year, according to Josh Carpenter from the Sports Business Journal.
Record-Breaking Streaming Numbers
The film set a Netflix record with nearly 47 million streamed minutes during its opening weekend and was watched for more than 6.2 billion minutes throughout the year, remaining in Netflix’s weekly top 10 list. It topped the global top-10 list for two weeks and stayed among the worldwide top 10 for a total of five weeks.
Golf Film Captures Global Audience
Out of the 39 films Netflix released in 2025, Happy Gilmore 2 ranks second, surpassed only by “KPop Demon Hunters,” which reached over 17 billion streamed minutes.
