Fans waited 30 years for the sequel, and last year it finally arrived: Happy Gilmore 2 premiered on Netflix, starring Adam Sandler with numerous star appearances. As the original became a cult classic over the years, the time was right for a reboot. The wait paid off, as the film became one of the most successful Netflix movies of the year, reports Josh Carpenter in the Sports Business Journal.
Record-Breaking Streaming Numbers for Happy Gilmore 2
The film set a Netflix record on its opening weekend with nearly 47 million streamed minutes and was viewed for over 6.2 billion minutes throughout the year while remaining in Netflix’s weekly top 10. It topped the global top 10 list for two weeks and stayed in the worldwide top 10 for a total of five weeks.

Of the 39 films Netflix released this year, Happy Gilmore 2 ranks second, just behind ‘KPop Demon Hunters,’ which reached over 17 billion minutes streamed.
