After the original film became a cult classic over the years, the time was right for a revival. The wait was rewarded, as the movie became one of the most successful Netflix films of the year, according to Josh Carpenter in the Sports Business Journal.
Record-Breaking Streaming Success
The film set a Netflix record on its opening weekend with nearly 47 million streamed minutes and was watched for over 6.2 billion minutes throughout the year while remaining in Netflix’s weekly Top 10. It held the number one spot on the global Top 10 list for two weeks and remained in the worldwide Top 10 for a total of five weeks.
Position Among Netflix Releases
Out of 39 films released by Netflix in 2025, Happy Gilmore 2 ranks second, surpassed only by “KPop Demon Hunters,” which achieved over 17 billion minutes viewed.
