Fans waited 30 years for the sequel, and last year it finally arrived: Happy Gilmore 2 premiered on Netflix, starring Adam Sandler with numerous star cameos. After the original became a cult classic over the years, the time was right for a reboot. The wait paid off, as the film was one of the most successful Netflix releases of the year, according to Josh Carpenter from Sports Business Journal.
Record-Breaking Viewership on Netflix
The film set a Netflix record on its opening weekend with nearly 47 million streamed minutes and was watched for over 6.2 billion minutes throughout the year while remaining in Netflix’s weekly top 10. It held the global number one spot for two weeks and stayed in the worldwide top 10 for five weeks.
Happy Gilmore 2’s Place Among Netflix Releases
Out of 39 films released by Netflix in 2025, Happy Gilmore 2 ranked second only to “KPop Demon Hunters,” which reached more than 17 billion minutes viewed.
