Fans waited 30 years for the sequel, and last year it finally arrived: Happy Gilmore 2 premiered on Netflix, starring Adam Sandler and featuring numerous star appearances. As the original grew into a cult classic over the years, the time was ripe for a revival, and the wait paid off. According to Josh Carpenter from Sports Business Journal, the film became one of Netflix’s most successful movies of the year.
Record-Breaking Streaming Numbers
The film set a Netflix record with nearly 47 million minutes streamed during its opening weekend and was watched for over 6.2 billion minutes throughout the year while staying in Netflix’s weekly Top 10 list. It topped the global Top 10 list for two weeks and remained in the worldwide Top 10 for a total of five weeks.

Out of 39 films released by Netflix this year, Happy Gilmore 2 ranked second only to ‘KPop Demon Hunters,’ which reached over 17 billion minutes viewed.
