Fans waited 30 years for the sequel, and last year it finally arrived: Happy Gilmore 2 premiered on Netflix, starring Adam Sandler with numerous star appearances. As the original became a cult film over the years, the time was right for a remake. And the wait paid off, as the film became one of Netflix’s most successful movies of the year, according to Josh Carpenter at the Sports Business Journal.
Record-Breaking Streaming Numbers for Happy Gilmore 2
The film set a Netflix record during its opening weekend with nearly 47 million minutes streamed and was watched for over 6.2 billion minutes throughout the year while maintaining a spot in Netflix’s weekly Top 10. It topped the global Top 10 list for two weeks and stayed in the worldwide Top 10 for a total of five weeks.
Golf Film Ranks Second Among Netflix Releases in 2025
Out of 39 films released by Netflix this year, Happy Gilmore 2 ranks second, only behind “KPop Demon Hunters,” which reached over 17 billion minutes streamed globally.
