Fans waited 30 years for the sequel, which finally premiered last year: Happy Gilmore 2 debuted on Netflix, starring Adam Sandler and featuring numerous star appearances. As the original became a cult classic over the years, the time was right for a revival. The wait was rewarded as the film became one of Netflix’s most successful movies of the year, according to Josh Carpenter in the Sports Business Journal.
Record-Breaking Streaming Numbers
The film set a Netflix record on its opening weekend with nearly 47 million streamed minutes and went on to amass over 6.2 billion minutes watched throughout the year while remaining in Netflix’s weekly Top 10 lists. It topped the global Top 10 list for two weeks and stayed within the worldwide Top 10 for a total of five weeks.

Out of 39 films released by Netflix in 2025, Happy Gilmore 2 ranked second, trailing only “KPop Demon Hunters,” which reached over 17 billion minutes streamed globally.
