For 30 years, fans waited for the sequel, and last year it finally arrived: Happy Gilmore 2 premiered on Netflix, starring Adam Sandler and featuring numerous star cameos. The original film had grown into a cult classic over the years, making the timing perfect for a reboot. This wait paid off, as the film became one of Netflix’s most successful movies of the year, according to Josh Carpenter in the Sports Business Journal.
Record-Breaking Streaming Numbers
The film set a Netflix record on its opening weekend with nearly 47 million streamed minutes and was viewed for over 6.2 billion minutes throughout the year while remaining in Netflix’s weekly Top 10. It topped the global Top 10 list for two weeks and stayed in the worldwide Top 10 for a total of five weeks.

Out of 39 films released by Netflix this year, Happy Gilmore 2 ranks second, only behind “KPop Demon Hunters,” which amassed over 17 billion minutes of viewing.
