2025 Golf Year in Review: Langer’s Farewell and New German Highlights

From seasoned pros to rookies, the German-speaking field made its mark at all levels this year. The golf year in review.

What began with the Green Jacket in 1985 ended in 2025 with standing ovations on the 18th fairway. Bernhard Langer’s final appearance at Augusta was the emotional highlight of a golf year that featured many other stories from a German perspective. Wins in Macao, London, and Gut Altentann, young talents emerging in Munich, and seasoned champions competing in North Carolina marked the 2025 golf year in review.

Langer’s Final Start at the Masters

Few moments defined the 2025 German golf year like Bernhard Langer’s last appearance at the Masters in Augusta. After 41 participations, two Green Jackets, and countless rounds, the 67-year-old bid farewell to the place that made him famous. The spectators rose, their applause accompanying him down every fairway. Though his final round did not lead him to the weekend cut, it ended with an emotional farewell on the 18th green. Langer, accompanied by his son Jason as caddie, said goodbye to a place that shaped him and which he helped define.

Record-Setting Victory at WINSTONgolf Senior Open and More

The final chapter was not yet written on the sporting front. Just months later, Langer demonstrated his competitiveness at the WINSTONgolf Senior Open with a 21-under-par tournament record, securing victory on home turf. Shortly after, Alex Cejka won his first title in two years at the SAS Championship in the USA. He showcased consistency by defending his lead and solidifying his position among the top 15 in the Schwab Cup rankings.

Rising Stars and Major Wins on International Tours

Weeks later, the next generation came into focus when Nicolai von Dellingshausen captured his first major win at the Austrian Alpine Open on the DP World Tour. With precise play and a timely eagle, he claimed the coveted maiden victory. Marcel Schneider and Marcel Siem also performed strongly, making it one of the most successful weekends for German golf on the European Tour with three Germans in the top five—a rare sight. Laura Fünfstück achieved her first win after 115 starts at the PIF London Championship, showcasing resilience in a challenging final round. Meanwhile, young amateur Tim Wiedemeyer impressed at the BMW International Open, shooting a 66 to crack the top 15 and showing that the German talent pipeline is promising. Dominic Foos celebrated his first tournament win on the Asian Tour at the SJM Macao Open, proving his mettle among international competitors. On the PGA Tour, Sepp Straka claimed his first signature event win at the Truist Championship, battling top players Shane Lowry and Justin Thomas, while Stephan Jäger recorded his third top-10 finish of the season with a bogey-free round highlighted by an eagle putt.
