From seasoned pros to rookies, the German-speaking golf scene stood out on all levels this year. The golf year in review.
What began in 1985 with the Green Jacket ended in 2025 with standing ovations on the 18th fairway. Bernhard Langer’s final appearance at Augusta was the emotional highlight of a golf year that also featured many other stories from a German perspective: victories in Macao, London, and Gut Altentann, young talents emerging in Munich, and seasoned champions competing in North Carolina.
Langer’s Last Start At The Masters
Few moments defined the 2025 German golf year more than Bernhard Langer’s final appearance at the Masters in Augusta. After 41 appearances, two Green Jackets, and countless rounds, the 67-year-old said farewell to the place that made him famous. Spectators stood and applauded him along every fairway. Although his farewell round did not lead into the weekend, it ended with an emotional goodbye on the 18th green. Langer, accompanied by his son Jason as caddie, bid farewell to a place that shaped him and that he helped shape.
Continued Success After The Masters
Those who thought Langer would hang up his clubs after the Masters farewell were quickly proven wrong. Just months later, he showed his competitiveness at the WINSTONgolf Senior Open, setting a new tournament record with 21 under par and securing the victory on home soil. Shortly after, Alex Cejka celebrated his first title in two years at the SAS Championship in the USA, defending his lead confidently and solidifying his place in the top 15 of the Schwab Cup rankings.
New German Highlights On Tour
Weeks later, the next generation stepped into the spotlight. Nicolai von Dellingshausen secured his first big win at the Austrian Alpine Open on the DP World Tour with precise play and a timely eagle. Marcel Schneider joined him on the podium and Marcel Siem played one of the best final rounds, making the weekend one of the most successful for German golf on the European Tour with three Germans in the top five — a rare sight.
Laura Fünfstück earned her first title after more than 100 tournament starts at the PIF London Championship, overcoming a tough final to clinch victory. Young amateur Tim Wiedemeyer impressed at the BMW International Open with a stellar 66 on Friday, finishing just behind established names like Marcel Siem and Martin Kaymer, proving that German youth golf is on the rise.
Dominic Foos celebrated his first win on the Asian Tour at the SJM Macao Open, showing consistent play throughout the event. Meanwhile, on the PGA Tour, Sepp Straka captured the Truist Championship at Quail Hollow Club, securing his second PGA title of the season and climbing into the top 10 in the world rankings. Stephan Jäger also performed strongly with a bogey-free T7 finish, marking his third top-10 placement of the season.
