Golf Year in Review 2025: Langer’s Final Putt and New German Chapters

From veterans to rookies, the German-speaking field made its mark on all levels this year in golf. The year in review.

What began in 1985 with the Green Jacket ended in 2025 with standing ovations on the 18th fairway. Bernhard Langer’s final appearance at Augusta was the emotional highlight of a golf year full of German stories—from victories in Macao, London, and Gut Altentann to emerging talents in Munich and seasoned champions in North Carolina. Here is the Golf Year in Review 2025.

Langer’s Final Start at the Masters

Few moments shaped the German golf year of 2025 like Bernhard Langer’s last outing at the Masters in Augusta. After 41 participations, two Green Jackets, and countless rounds, the 67-year-old bid farewell to the place that made him famous. Spectators rose as applause accompanied him across every fairway. Although his farewell round didn’t lead him into the weekend, it ended emotionally on the 18th green. Langer, accompanied by his son Jason as caddie, said goodbye to a place that influenced him and which he helped shape.

More German Success on the International Stage

However, the last chapter was not yet written sportingly. Months after the Masters, Langer proved his competitiveness at the WINSTONgolf Senior Open by setting a new tournament record with 21 under par and claimed victory on home soil. Shortly after, Alex Cejka celebrated his first title in two years at the SAS Championship in the USA, maintaining his lead and securing a spot in the top 15 of the Schwab Cup Rankings. Few weeks later, the next generation stepped into focus. Nicolai von Dellingshausen claimed his first major win at the Austrian Alpine Open on the DP World Tour, showcasing precise play and an eagle at the right moment. Marcel Schneider stood with him on the podium, and Marcel Siem delivered one of the best final rounds, making it one of the most successful weekends for German golf on the European Tour with three Germans in the top five—a rare sight.

Rising Stars and Milestones

Laura Fünfstück earned her first title at the PIF London Championship after more than 100 starts, fighting back from an early deficit with key birdies and sealing her win with a birdie on the 18th hole. Olivia Cowan contributed with a tied fourth place. Amateur Tim Wiedemeyer impressed at the BMW International Open with a 66 on Friday, moving into the top 15 amid established tour players including Marcel Siem, Martin Kaymer, and Yannik Paul. Dominic Foos claimed his first tournament win on the Asian Tour at the SJM Macao Open, outperforming an international field with consistent play. On the PGA Tour, Sepp Straka won the Truist Championship at Quail Hollow Club, his second PGA title of the season and his first signature event victory, placing him second in the FedExCup and into the top 10 of the world rankings. Stephan Jäger also made headlines with a bogey-free T7 finish, marking his third top-10 of the season.
