Golf World Rankings: Matti Schmid Starts 2026 as Top German Player

Matti Schmid starts 2026 as the highest-ranked German on the golf world rankings, followed by Stephan Jäger and Nicolai Von Dellingshausen.

Only One German in the Top 100

As the 2026 golf season begins, we take a look at the rankings of German players entering the year. Matti Schmid leads the pack, ranked 92nd and the only German player in the Top 100. On the other hand, Stephan Jäger, who was ranked 52nd at the start of last year, has lost points and now stands at 114th.

The highest-ranked German not playing on the PGA Tour is Nicolai Von Dellingshausen at 193rd. Marcel Siem improved his ranking to 257th after a T14 finish at the Dubai Invitational in the third weekend of January. Also in the Top 300 are Marcel Schneider at 243 and Thomas Rosenmüller at 276.

Sepp Straka in the Top 15

The best-ranked player from the German-speaking region remains Sepp Straka at 12th place at the start of 2026. Despite a quiet end of year due to family issues, Straka is ready to challenge the Top 10 of the world rankings again in the coming year thanks to his results from last year.

Scottie Scheffler Leading by a Wide Margin

The undisputed world No. 1 remains Scottie Scheffler, leading by over 200 points ahead of second-placed Rory McIlroy. The Top 5 is rounded off by Englishman Tommy Fleetwood and Americans Xander Schauffele and Russell Henley.
