Golf World Rankings: Matti Schmid Starts 2026 as Germany’s Top Player

Matti Schmid starts 2026 as the highest-ranked German on the golf world rankings, followed by Stephan Jäger and Nicolai Von Dellingshausen.

Only One German in the Top 100

As the 2026 golf season begins, we look at the rankings of German players going into the year. The top German is Matti Schmid at rank 92, and he is also the only German player in the top 100. Stephan Jäger, who was ranked 52 at the start of last year, lost points and now ranks only 114.

The best German player not competing on the PGA Tour is Nicolai Von Dellingshausen at rank 193. Marcel Siem improved his position with a T14 finish at the Dubai Invitational in mid-January and is now ranked 257. Marcel Schneider at 243 and Thomas Rosenmüller at 276 also remain in the top 300.

Sepp Straka in the Top 15

The highest-ranked player from the German-speaking region at the start of 2026 is Sepp Straka, positioned at number 12. Despite taking it easy late last year due to family issues, his results from the previous year have put him in a position to challenge the top 10 again in the coming season.

Scottie Scheffler Leads by a Wide Margin

The undisputed world number one remains Scottie Scheffler, with a lead of over 200 points ahead of second-ranked Rory McIlroy. Completing the top five are England’s Tommy Fleetwood and Americans Xander Schauffele and Russell Henley.
