Golf World Ranking: Matti Schmid Starts 2026 as Top German Player

Matti Schmid starts 2026 as the highest-ranked German on the golf world ranking, followed by Stephan Jäger and Nicolai Von Dellingshausen.

Only One German in the Top 100

As the 2026 golf season begins, we look at the positions of German players entering the year. The best German player is Matti Schmid at rank 92, also the only German inside the top 100. In contrast, Stephan Jäger lost points compared to last year, dropping from 52 to 114.

The highest-ranked German not playing on the PGA Tour is Nicolai Von Dellingshausen at 193. Marcel Siem improved his position after finishing T14 at the Dubai Invitational in the third weekend of January and now ranks 257. Marcel Schneider at 243 and Thomas Rosenmüller at 276 are also inside the top 300.

Sepp Straka in the Top 15

The best-ranked player from the German-speaking region remains Sepp Straka at 12th place. After a quieter end to the year due to family issues, he is now poised to challenge the top 10 of the world ranking again in 2026.

Scottie Scheffler Leading by a Wide Margin

The undisputed world number 1 remains Scottie Scheffler, with over 200 points ahead of second-placed Rory McIlroy. The top five is rounded out by England’s Tommy Fleetwood and Americans Xander Schauffele and Russell Henley.
