Golf World Ranking: Matti Schmid Starts 2026 as Top German Player

Matti Schmid begins 2026 as the highest-ranked German golfer in the world golf rankings, followed by Stephan Jäger and Nicolai Von Dellingshausen.

Only One German in the Top 100

As the 2026 golf season starts, we look at the rankings of German players heading into the year. The top German player is Matti Schmid, ranked 92nd, and he is also the only German player within the top 100. In contrast, Stephan Jäger lost points compared to last year, dropping from 52nd at the start of last year to 114th now.

The best German player not competing on the PGA Tour is Nicolai Von Dellingshausen, ranked 193rd. Marcel Siem improved his ranking after finishing T14 at the Dubai Invitational in the third week of January, moving up to 257th. Marcel Schneider at 243rd and Thomas Rosenmüller at 276th also remain within the top 300.

Sepp Straka in the Top 15

The highest-ranked player from the German-speaking region is still Sepp Straka at the start of 2026. Currently ranked 12th, he had eased off late last year due to family issues. Thanks to last year’s results, Straka is now gearing up to challenge for a top 10 world ranking again in the coming year.

Scottie Scheffler Leading by a Wide Margin

The undisputed world number one remains Scottie Scheffler. He leads by over 200 points ahead of second-ranked Rory McIlroy. Completing the top five are England’s Tommy Fleetwood alongside Americans Xander Schauffele and Russell Henley.
