Golf Stars to Watch in 2026: Major Contenders and Rising Players

These stars are ones to watch in 2026, from those aiming for major titles to young players ready to break through.

As 2025 comes to an end, it’s time to look ahead to the next year. Which players could take the next step in their careers and who might win a major for the first time? This year Rory McIlroy finally won his long-awaited Masters title, and J.J. Spaun climbed from 119th in the world to the top 10 after his US Open win in June. So, who are the players in 2026 that could rise in the field or finally achieve long-held goals?

Major Contenders Hoping for Their First Title

The obvious candidate is Tommy Fleetwood. The 34-year-old Englishman won the FedEx Cup title last year, his first on the PGA Tour, relieving a big burden. With a Ryder Cup victory, a win at the DP World India Championship, and a narrow playoff loss at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, he maintained strong form throughout the year. It’s quite possible he carries this momentum into 2026 and secures his first major success next year.

His fellow Englishman Tyrrell Hatton is another name not to overlook in majors in 2026. He already has major experience, narrowly missing the US Open title due to late mistakes. Though this missed opportunity was tough, it gave him invaluable experience that could prove crucial if he gets another shot next year.

Cameron Young, Robert MacIntyre, and Ludvig Aberg also have definite chances to win their first major next year. Young, despite a mixed season, finished T4 at the US Open and won his first PGA Tour event, entering the upcoming season with confidence. MacIntyre was runner-up at the tournament won by J.J. Spaun, while Aberg likely places his biggest hope on the Masters, where he had strong chances this year before faltering late.

Players Poised to Break Through to Stardom

The surprise of last DP World Tour season was Marco Penge. The Englishman finished 2nd in the Race to Dubai and qualified for the PGA Tour for the first time. He aims to make a strong impression on the American stage. Last year, he already showed signs by finishing T2 at the Genesis Scottish Open. With a powerful drive and solid game suited for the PGA Tour, his 27 years of experience should help him adjust to the transition.

Harry Hall has demonstrated his ability on the PGA Tour with a T17 at the Tour Championship. Known for his very consistent putting, he missed only 3 cuts in 2025. Next year could see him break into the world’s elite, and he will surely be a player to watch in the big tournaments.

The standout star of the 2026 DP World Tour so far is Jayden Schaper. In the first three events, he has already won twice and finished T2 in the other. At only 24, his strong putting has stood out, requiring the fewest putts so far in the season. Whether he can maintain this form remains to be seen, but currently, he is definitely a player to watch on the
