DP World Tour: Two Germans Lead After First Round in Bahrain

The DP World Tour kicks off a new tournament week with the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship where two Germans advance to the top on day one.

The DP World Tour Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship has started. At the Royal Golf Club in Bahrain, two Germans notably asserted themselves against the international field on the first day.

Schott Leads on DP World Tour, Von Dellingshausen Close Behind

Freddy Schott had a dream start on the opening day and made an early statement. The German recorded six birdies over his first nine holes, including five in a row, quickly moving to the top of the leaderboard. A double bogey on his tenth hole briefly slowed his momentum, but Schott remained unfazed: birdies on 14 and 17, along with just one more bogey, got him back on track. He capped his round with an eagle on the final hole and took the lead at seven under par alongside Spaniard Alejandro Del Rey, who carded a flawless round without a bogey and seven birdies.

In pursuit position is Nicolai von Dellingshausen. After strong front nine with birdies on holes 3, 4, 6, and 7, plus an eagle on the 9th following a perfect approach shot just centimeters from the pin, he stood at five under. Although he took a bogey on 11, he responded with additional birdies on 13 and 18. He finishes day one at six under in a promising chasing position, with his precise greens approach shots producing several birdies.

Other DACH Players Show Mixed Results

Marcel Schneider sits in the midfield after round one. His varied performance included five birdies, two bogeys, and a double bogey, for a total of one under par. Notably, he excelled on the par-3 holes, scoring birdies on three out of four.

Joel Girrbach finished at two under par. The Swiss player had a solid start with a birdie and eight pars, but incurred two bogeys on the back nine. He recovered with birdies on 15, 16, and 18, securing an under-par round.

Marcel Siem experienced ups and downs. After bogeys on 4 and 5, he narrowly missed a hole-in-one at 7, where he also made a birdie, and added another birdie on 9 to be even par going into the back nine. However, two early bogeys followed on the second nine, with a birdie at 14, but a further bogey prevented a comeback, leaving him at two over par for the day.

Bernd Wiesberger and Maximilian Steinlechner are tied at three over par after each posting three birdies and six bogeys, placing them in the lower third of the field.

Title Defense Off to a Strong Start

Last year’s champion Laurie Canter is on track to defend his title. The Englishman recorded three birdies on the front nine and added four more on the back nine. With only one bogey, his six under score keeps
