Patrick Reed wins in Dubai, with Andy Sullivan finishing second. DACH players like Schneider and von Dellingshausen finish mid-field.
American Patrick Reed claimed the title at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour held at the Emirates Golf Club in Dubai, the jewel of the Persian Gulf in the United Arab Emirates. Although Reed couldn’t quite match his performances from earlier days, an even-par round on the final day was enough for the pro from San Antonio, Texas, to secure the victory.
Mixed Final Round Suffices for Victory
Reed was not flawless on the front nine, recording a bogey on his scorecard. On the back nine, he balanced out his earlier mistake on the 10th hole but missed two putts on the 11th hole, resulting in another bogey. He recovered again on the 13th hole. Finishing with a total of 14 under par, Reed secured the title comfortably ahead of Frenchman Julien Guerrier, Spaniard David Puig, and Englishman Andy Sullivan. With his win, Reed jumped from 107th to 2nd place in the Race to Dubai standings.
DP World Tour: Sullivan fights to second place
Andy Sullivan proved his resilience late in the final round to clinch sole second place. The Englishman started the front nine with four bogeys and just one birdie but made up ground with four birdies on the back nine, finishing with a 71. A birdie on the 18th hole secured his second place on the final stretch. Sullivan finished ten under par, trailing winner Reed by a significant margin but holding off pressure from third-placed David Puig and Julien Guerrier, who both finished at nine under par. Puig shot a 73 in the final round, while Guerrier improved his leaderboard position by seven spots with a strong 69.
DACH Players in the Middle of the Leaderboard
Four DACH players who made the cut on Friday placed in the middle to lower-middle tier of the leaderboard. Marcel Schneider finished the final round with a 74, dropping 14 places to T33, sharing this position with DP World Tour favorite Rory McIlroy, who carded a 73 and lost six spots. Nicolai von Dellingshausen ended the Hero Dubai Desert Classic at two under par, tied for 33rd as well. Freddy Schott and Swiss Joel Girrbach tied for 49th with one over par, both finishing their rounds with 74 strokes. Schott recorded five bogeys and three birdies; Girrbach matched that. Both improved slightly in the Race to Dubai ranking, with Schott currently at 103rd early in the season.
