Players from the German-speaking region struggled on Day 2 at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour. Several missed the cut.
After a promising start to the week, Friday did not go as hoped for golfers from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour. Nicolai Von Dellingshausen shot a 74, slipping from fifth place the previous day to the middle of the pack. Freddy Schott barely made the cut with a 74. Marcel Schneider also could not stay under par compared to the previous day, shooting one over par. Joel Girrbach had the worst day, shooting a 77 and only just making the cut despite his strong Thursday round. Marcel Siem, Bernd Wiesberger, and Maximilian Steinbach missed the cut. Even the stars struggled in Dubai. Rory McIlroy sits tied with Von Dellingshausen after a 70, and Tommy Fleetwood just made the cut. Patrick Reed leads after two days with a score of nine under par.
Triple Bogey Dashes Von Dellingshausen’s Chances
On Thursday, Nicolai Von Dellingshausen played an excellent round under challenging windy conditions, positioning himself for a potential top finish this week. However, those chances faded early Friday after a triple bogey on his third hole. His drive landed in a bunker, and his attempt to escape went out of bounds, forcing a drop. Things did not improve as he only completed the par 4, 13th hole with his seventh stroke. He recovered somewhat with three birdies on the back nine, bringing his score to even par after nine holes. Unfortunately, his front nine was tougher, with three bogeys in a row on holes 5 to 7. A birdie on the 9th hole left him two over par, dropping him to 33rd place.
Joel Girrbach had an even worse day. After shooting 68 the previous day and starting in a tie for third, he began well with a birdie on the first hole. However, it was his last birdie of the day. Bogeys on holes 11 and 12 put him at one over par on the back nine. The front nine saw his score plummet with four more bogeys and no birdies, finishing five over par overall and dropping to 60th place, just inside the cut.
DP World Tour: Marcel Siem’s Eagle on 18 Provides Silver Lining
Marcel Siem had a tough week. After an even-par round on Thursday, Friday was disappointing until the final hole. He shot a 76, placing 82nd and missing the weekend cut. Four bogeys and no birdies on the front nine put the 45-year-old in trouble early. He followed with more bogeys on holes 12 and 15 on the back nine. However, Siem showed a glimpse of skill with a near-albatross on the par 5 18th hole, missing by just two meters, but redeemed himself by sinking an eagle. This birdie helped improve his score to 76.
