German-speaking players struggled on day two of the Hero Dubai Desert Classic of the DP World Tour, with several missing the cut.
After a promising start to the week, Friday did not go as hoped for golfers from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour. Nicolai Von Dellingshausen shot a 74, dropping from fifth place the day before into the midfield. Freddy Schott just made the cut with a 74. Marcel Schneider could not stay under par compared to the previous day, posting a 1-over round. Joel Girrbach had the worst day, scoring a 77 and barely making the cut despite his strong Thursday round. Marcel Siem, Bernd Wiesberger, and Maximilian Steinbach missed the cut. Stars struggled too; Rory McIlroy shot a 70, tying with Von Dellingshausen, and Tommy Fleetwood just barely made the cut. Patrick Reed leads after two days with a score of 9 under par.
Triple Bogey Dashes Von Dellingshausen’s Chances
Von Dellingshausen played an excellent round Thursday under difficult wind conditions, putting him in position for a possible top finish this week. However, his chances faded early Friday after a triple bogey on his third hole of the day. His drive landed in the bunker, and his attempt to escape went out of bounds, leading to a drop. Things did not improve, and he finished the par-4 13th hole in seven strokes. He recovered with three birdies on the back nine to bring his score to even par after the first nine holes, but his front nine faltered with three consecutive bogeys on holes 5 to 7. A birdie on the final hole 9 brought him to 2 over par, dropping him to 33rd place.
Joel Girrbach had an even worse day. After a 68 on Thursday placing him tied for third, he started well Friday with a birdie on the first hole, but it was his only one of the day. Bogeys on holes 11 and 12 led to a +1 on his back nine. His front nine went downhill with four more bogeys and no birdies, finishing with 5 over par and dropping to 60th, barely inside the cut line.
DP World Tour: Eagle on 18th a Silver Lining for Marcel Siem
Marcel Siem had a tough week. After an even-par round Thursday, nothing went his way Friday until the last hole, where he carded a 76 and finished 82nd, missing the weekend cut. Four bogeys and no birdies on the front nine set a difficult tone. On the back nine, he added bogeys on holes 12 and 15. However, he showed his skills briefly on the par-5 18th, nearly making an albatross, just two meters shy. He managed to sink an eagle to improve his score to a 76.
