German-speaking players struggled on day two at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic of the DP World Tour. Several missed the cut.
After a promising start to the week, Friday did not go as hoped for golfers from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic of the DP World Tour. Nicolai Von Dellingshausen shot a 74, dropping from fifth place the day before to the midfield. Freddy Schott barely made the cut with a 74. Marcel Schneider also couldn’t stay under par compared to the previous day and finished one over par. Joel Girrbach had the worst day, shooting a 77 and only just making the cut despite a strong round on Thursday. Marcel Siem, Bernd Wiesberger, and Maximilian Steinbach missed the cut. Even the stars struggled in Dubai. Rory McIlroy is tied with Von Dellingshausen after a 70, and Tommy Fleetwood also barely made the cut. Leading after the first two days is Patrick Reed with a score of nine under par.
Triple Bogey Derails Von Dellingshausen’s Chances
On Thursday, Nicolai Von Dellingshausen played an excellent round under difficult wind conditions, putting himself in position for a potential top result this week. However, his chances slipped away early on Friday after a triple bogey on the third hole. His drive landed in a bunker, and his next attempt to escape went out of bounds, forcing a drop. Things didn’t improve as he only completed the par 4 13th hole in seven strokes. He managed to recover somewhat with three birdies on the back nine, bringing his score to even par after the first nine holes. His front nine, however, remained challenging with three consecutive bogeys from holes 5 to 7. A birdie on the final 9th hole saw him finish at two over par and fall to 33rd place.
Joel Girrbach had an even tougher day after starting in a tie for 3rd following a 68 on the previous day. He started well with a birdie on the first hole but never birdied again. Bogeys on holes 11 and 12 had him at one over par after the back nine. The front nine was even rougher with four more bogeys and no birdies, resulting in a final score of five over par and dropping him to 60th place, just inside the cut.
DP World Tour: Eagle on 18 Is a Silver Lining for Marcel Siem
Marcel Siem had a tough week. After an even-par round on Thursday, Friday was disappointing until the last hole, where he made an eagle on the par 5 18th. He finished with a 76, placing 82nd and missing the cut for the weekend. His front nine included four bogeys with no birdies, and more bogeys on holes 12 and 15 on the back nine. Nevertheless, his skill showed briefly on the final hole where he narrowly missed an albatross by two meters but managed to hole the eagle putt, improving his score to 76.
