DP World Tour: DACH Players Struggle to Make Weekend Cut at Hero Dubai Desert Classic

German-speaking players struggled on day two at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic of the DP World Tour, with several missing the cut.

After a promising start to the week, Friday did not go as hoped for golfers from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic of the DP World Tour. Nicolai Von Dellingshausen shot a 74, dropping from fifth place the day before to the middle of the leaderboard. Freddy Schott barely made the cut with a 74. Marcel Schneider was also unable to stay under par compared to the previous day, shooting one over par. Joel Girrbach had the worst day, scoring a 77 and narrowly making the cut despite his strong round on Thursday. Marcel Siem, Bernd Wiesberger, and Maximilian Steinbach missed the cut as well. The stars struggled too: Rory McIlroy shot a 70, tied with Von Dellingshausen, and Tommy Fleetwood just made the cut. Leading after the first two days is Patrick Reed with a score of 9 under par.

Triple Bogey Derails Von Dellingshausen’s Chances

On Thursday, Nicolai Von Dellingshausen played an excellent round in challenging windy conditions, putting himself in position for a possible top result this week. However, that opportunity slipped away early on Friday after he made a triple bogey on the third hole of the day. His drive landed in a bunker, and his following attempt to escape ended out of bounds, requiring a drop. His troubles continued as he took seven shots to finish the 13th hole, a par 4. He managed to recover somewhat, scoring three birdies on the remaining back nine holes to bring his score to even par after the first nine holes. Unfortunately, his front nine only got worse with three consecutive bogeys on holes 5 through 7. A birdie on the final hole, the 9th, brought him to 2 over par, falling to 33rd place.

Joel Girrbach’s day was even tougher. After shooting a 68 the day before and starting tied for third, he began well, making a birdie on his first hole. However, that was his only birdie of the day. Bogeys on holes 11 and 12 left him at +1 after the back nine. On the front nine, things fell apart further with four more bogeys and no birdies, resulting in a total score of 5 over par and a drop to 60th, just inside the cut.

DP World Tour: Eagle on 18 a Silver Lining for Marcel Siem

Marcel Siem had a rough week. After an even-par round on Thursday, nothing went right on Friday until the final hole, where he carded a 76 and landed in 82nd place, missing the cut for the weekend. After four bogeys and no birdies on the front nine, it looked bleak early for the 45-year-old. The back nine saw bogeys on holes 12 and 15. However, Siem showed his skill on the par-5 18th hole, playing a near-perfect hole and missing an albatross by just
