German-speaking players struggled on day two of the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour with several missing the cut.
After a promising start to the week, Friday did not go as hoped for golfers from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic. Nicolai Von Dellingshausen shot a 74, dropping from fifth place the previous day to the mid-field. Freddy Schott just made the cut with a 74. Marcel Schneider couldn’t stay under par compared to the prior day, shooting one over par. Joel Girrbach had the worst day, shooting 77 and barely making the cut despite his strong round on Thursday. Marcel Siem, Bernd Wiesberger, and Maximilian Steinbach missed the cut. Even the stars struggled in Dubai. Rory McIlroy shot 70, tying with Von Dellingshausen, and Tommy Fleetwood narrowly made the cut. Patrick Reed leads after the first two days with a score of nine under par.
Triple Bogey Ends Von Dellingshausen’s Chances
On Thursday, Nicolai Von Dellingshausen played an excellent round under challenging wind conditions, putting him in a position for a possible top result this week. However, this opportunity slipped away early Friday when he triple bogeyed the third hole. His drive landed in a bunker, and his attempt to escape went out of bounds, forcing a drop. Things did not improve, and it took him seven strokes to finish the par-4 13th hole. He managed to recover somewhat, making three birdies on the back nine to bring his score to even par after the first nine holes. However, his front nine was less consistent, with three bogeys in a row on holes 5 through 7. A birdie on the final 9th hole left him at two over par and in 33rd place.
Even worse for Joel Girrbach, who started the day tied third after a 68 on Thursday. He began well with a birdie on the first hole, but that was his last of the day. Bogeys on holes 11 and 12 left the 32-year-old at one over par after the back nine. The front nine deteriorated for Girrbach with four more bogeys and no birdies, finishing five over par and dropping him to 60th place, just inside the cut line.
DP World Tour: Eagle on 18 a Silver Lining for Marcel Siem
Marcel Siem experienced a tough week. After an even-par round on Thursday, Friday was difficult until the final hole, where he shot a 76, landing him in 82nd place and missing the cut. Four bogeys and no birdies on the front nine set an early negative tone for the 45-year-old. Bogeys followed on holes 12 and 15 on the back nine. However, Siem showed his skill briefly on the par-5 18th hole, nearly making an albatross by just two meters. He made an eagle to improve his score to 76 but it wasn’t enough to advance to the weekend.
