German-speaking players had a tough second day at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic of the DP World Tour; several missed the cut.
After a promising start to the week, Friday did not go as hoped for the golfers from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour. Nicolai Von Dellingshausen shot a 74, dropping from fifth place on the previous day to the middle of the pack. Freddy Schott barely made the cut with a 74. Marcel Schneider also struggled to stay under par compared to the day before, finishing one over par. Joel Girrbach had the toughest day, shooting a 77 and just making the cut despite a strong Thursday round. Marcel Siem, Bernd Wiesberger, and Maximilian Steinbach missed the cut. Even the stars struggled in Dubai; Rory McIlroy shot a 70, tying with Von Dellingshausen, while Tommy Fleetwood narrowly made the cut. Leading after the first two days is Patrick Reed, with a score of 9 under par.
Triple Bogey Dashes Von Dellingshausen’s Chances
On Thursday, Nicolai Von Dellingshausen played an excellent round amid challenging wind conditions, positioning himself for a possible top result this week. However, that opportunity slipped away early on Friday after he made a triple bogey on his third hole of the day. His drive landed in a bunker, and his subsequent attempt to escape went out of bounds, forcing a drop. Things did not improve afterward, and he only finished the par-4 13th hole on his seventh stroke. He managed to recover somewhat with three birdies on the remaining back nine holes, bringing his score to even par after nine holes. Unfortunately, his front nine was less successful, dropping three bogeys in a row from holes 5 to 7. A birdie on the final ninth hole brought his total to two over par, falling him back to 33rd place.
Joel Girrbach fared even worse. Starting tied for third after a 68 on Thursday, the Swiss player began well with a birdie on his first hole, which would be his only one that day. Bogeys on holes 11 and 12 left him at +1 for his back nine. Things went downhill on the front nine with four more bogeys and no birdies, resulting in a total round of 5 over par and dropping him to 60th place, barely making the cut.
DP World Tour: Eagle on 18 Bright Spot for Marcel Siem
Marcel Siem had a difficult week. After an even-par round on Thursday, nothing went right for him on Friday until the final hole, where he shot a 76 and landed in 82nd place, missing the cut. Four bogeys and no birdies on the front nine set a tough tone early for the 45-year-old. On the back nine, additional bogeys on the 12th and 15th holes followed. However, Siem showcased his skill on the par-5 18th hole, narrowly missing an albatross by two meters. He rewarded himself with an eagle putt, improving
