German-speaking players struggled on day two of the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour, with several missing the cut.
After a promising start to the week, Friday did not go as hoped for golfers from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic of the DP World Tour. Nicolai Von Dellingshausen shot a 74, dropping from fifth place to the midfield. Freddy Schott barely made the cut with a 74. Marcel Schneider could not stay under par compared to the previous day and shot one over par. Joel Girrbach had the worst day with a 77 and also just made the cut despite his strong Thursday round. Marcel Siem, Bernd Wiesberger, and Maximilian Steinbach missed the cut. Even the stars struggled in Dubai. Rory McIlroy shot a 70, tying with Von Dellingshausen, while Tommy Fleetwood barely made the cut. Patrick Reed leads after two days with a score of nine under par.
Triple bogey ruins Von Dellingshausen’s chances
Nicolai Von Dellingshausen played an excellent round on Thursday under difficult wind conditions, positioning himself for a potential top result this week. However, this opportunity slipped away early Friday after a triple bogey on his third hole. His drive landed in a bunker, and the next attempt to escape went out of bounds, forcing a drop. Things worsened as he took seven shots to finish the 13th hole, a par 4. Nevertheless, he recovered with three birdies on the back nine, bringing his score to even par after nine holes. His front nine was less successful, with three consecutive bogeys between holes 5 and 7. A birdie on the final hole 9 brought his score to two over par, dropping him to 33rd place.
Joel Girrbach slips but just makes cut
Joel Girrbach, after shooting 68 on Thursday and starting tied for third on Friday, began well with a birdie on his first hole. However, it proved to be his last of the day. Bogeys on holes 11 and 12 left him at plus one after the back nine. On the front nine, his game deteriorated with four more bogeys and no birdies, finishing at five over par and dropping him to 60th place, just inside the cut line.
DP World Tour: Eagle on 18 a bright spot for Marcel Siem
Marcel Siem had a tough week. After an even-par round on Thursday, Friday went poorly for him until the final hole, resulting in a 76 and a place at 82nd, missing the weekend cut. Four bogeys and no birdies on the front nine set a difficult tone. Further bogeys on holes 12 and
