DP World Tour: DACH Players Struggle at Hero Dubai Desert Classic

Players from the German-speaking region struggled on day two of the Hero Dubai Desert Classic of the DP World Tour, with several missing the cut.

After a promising start to the week, Friday did not go well for golfers from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic of the DP World Tour. Nicolai Von Dellingshausen shot a 74 and dropped from fifth place on the previous day into the middle of the pack. Freddy Schott barely made the cut with a 74. Marcel Schneider was unable to stay under par compared to the day before and finished with one over par. Joel Girrbach had the toughest day, shooting a 77 and just making the cut despite a strong round on Thursday. Marcel Siem, Bernd Wiesberger, and Maximilian Steinbach missed the cut. Even the stars faltered in Dubai. Rory McIlroy is tied with Von Dellingshausen after a 70, and Tommy Fleetwood just barely made the cut. Leading after the first two days is Patrick Reed with a score of nine under par.

Triple Bogey Ends Von Dellingshausen’s Chances to Advance

Nicolai Von Dellingshausen played an excellent round on Thursday under tough windy conditions, putting himself in position for a possible top finish this week. However, that chance slipped away early Friday when he recorded a triple bogey on his third hole. His drive landed in a bunker, and his next attempt to escape went out of bounds, forcing a drop. Things did not improve as he only finished hole 13, a par 4, on his seventh stroke. He recovered somewhat with three birdies on the back nine, bringing his score to even par after his first nine holes. Unfortunately, his front nine deteriorated with three consecutive bogeys on holes 5 through 7. A birdie on the final hole 9 brought him to two over par and dropped him to 33rd place.

Joel Girrbach had an even tougher day. After shooting a 68 on the previous day and starting tied third, he made a birdie on his first hole, but that was his last of the day. Bogeys on holes 11 and 12 left him at +1 after the back nine. The front nine was even worse, with four more bogeys and no birdies, culminating in a five-over-par total and placing him 60th, just within the cut line.

DP World Tour: Eagle on 18 the Only Highlight for Marcel Siem

Marcel Siem had a rough week. After an even-par round on Thursday, Friday offered little success until the last hole, where he finished with a 76 and placed 82nd, missing the weekend cut. Four bogeys and no birdies on the front nine set a poor tone early for the 45-year-old. More bogeys on holes 12 and 15 followed on the back nine. However, Siem showcased his skills once more on the par 5 18th hole, narrowly missing an albatross by two meters but securing an eagle to improve his score to 76.
