Henrik Stenson seeks a comeback to the DP World Tour after losing his LIV Golf spot. Laurie Canter rejoins the PGA Tour.
Henrik Stenson has applied for membership on the DP World Tour. After three years with LIV Golf, the Swede is aiming to rejoin the European circuit. The DP World Tour confirmed that Stenson has paid all outstanding fines, making him eligible to reapply.
Stenson targets DP World Tour after LIV Golf setback
Stenson’s return isn’t entirely voluntary. Following a disappointing season, he was overtaken by Ian Poulter in the final LIV Golf event in Indianapolis, dropping him into the relegation zone. Finishing 49th overall, Stenson lost his LIV Golf spot for the 2026 season and is now seeking a new path among the elite.
His move to LIV Golf in 2022 was one of the most controversial in the golf world, as he was then the appointed Ryder Cup captain for Team Europe. The switch cost him the captaincy, which was handed to Luke Donald. Under Donald, Europe secured two prestigious Ryder Cup victories, cementing his legacy in European golf.
Since joining LIV, Stenson has only played two DP World Tour events in January 2023. A legal ruling in favor of the DP World Tour led to his resignation in May 2023. In recent years, he has only appeared sporadically in world-ranking events, such as on the Asian Tour or The Open, where he remains eligible due to his 2016 win. Currently ranked 1165th in the world, Stenson will likely rely on tournament invitations in 2026 to climb back up the rankings.
Laurie Canter earns PGA Tour card
Laurie Canter has had a turbulent few years. Between 2022 and 2024, the Englishman competed in LIV Golf, earning over $5 million in prize money. Despite his success, he was replaced by Anthony Kim in 2024. Due to his LIV affiliation, Canter couldn’t immediately return to the PGA Tour and instead rejoined the DP World Tour. The move paid off, as he delivered the best golf of his career, finishing 7th in the Race to Dubai at the DP World Tour Championship. This performance earned him a PGA Tour card for the upcoming season, marking a full-circle return to top-tier competition.
