Marcel Siem slips on the third day while Shane Lowry and Rory McIlroy remain close to the lead.
On the third day of the DP World Tour season opener, the Dubai Invitational at Dubai Creek Resort in the UAE, German player Marcel Siem dropped 16 places to T25 on the leaderboard, unable to build on his previous days’ successes. Siem started promisingly on the front nine with birdies on holes 3 and 4, but two bogeys on the last two holes of the first half slowed his momentum.
Siem Loses Ground on Moving Day
On the back nine, Siem from the Düsseldorf area made four more bogeys. Two birdies on holes 10 and 14 could not stop his downward spiral, and he finished the day with a 73, two over par, placing him with a total of one over par in the mid-field after the third round.
Also from Düsseldorf, Nicolai von Dellingshausen slightly improved his trend from the previous days. He started the front nine with two birdies and one bogey, playing the first half solidly. On the back nine, he was error-free until hole 15, and even recorded a birdie on hole 13.
However, hole 15 proved disastrous: from the tee, he hit the ball out of bounds and incurred two penalty strokes. Despite needing only three strokes for the par-4 hole after that, the penalties resulted in a double bogey. On the final 18th hole, he again suffered a double bogey after his third shot landed in a bunker behind the green. He narrowly missed a putt that could have allowed him to finish with four strokes but ended up requiring a sixth stroke for the double bogey.
Despite improving with a 73 round at two over par, von Dellingshausen stands with a total of twelve over par at T53, dropping two places on the leaderboard.
The competition remains exciting at the top of the Dubai Invitational. Spaniard Nacho Elvira now holds solo first place on the leaderboard. Although he was even on the front nine with one birdie and one bogey, he shone bogey-free on the back nine, posting three additional birdies. With a 68, Elvira stands at eight under par, leading by two strokes.
DP World Tour: Lowry, Armitage and Frittelli Close Behind
Irishman and last Ryder Cup’s match winner Shane Lowry dropped to T2 with a 70 on day three. He shares second place with England’s Marcus Armitage, who improved by one spot with a 68, and South African Dylan Frittelli, who gained seven positions with a bogey-free
