DP World Tour kicks off in Australia with two hole-in-ones

Heat, storms and spectacular shots mark the DP World Tour season opener in Brisbane – Garcia leads, with two stunning hole-in-ones.

The new DP World Tour season teed off at the Royal Queensland Golf Club in Brisbane under summery Australian skies, featuring a strong local field. Despite the holiday season, temperatures soared above 30°C as the southern hemisphere welcomed summer on December 22. A typical summer storm disrupted play, forcing a suspension of Thursday’s opening round due to wind and rain.

DP World Tour: Gale hits hole-in-one and wins BMW

Despite the weather, the season opener delivered fireworks. Spain’s Sebastian Garcia leads the leaderboard at seven under par after 15 holes of bogey-free golf with seven birdies. Hot on his heels is Australian Daniel Gale, who thrilled fans with a hole-in-one on the 11th hole, earning himself a brand-new BMW M5 Touring. The 154-meter par-3 was sponsored by BMW as the designated hole-in-one prize hole. Gale also carded four birdies and one bogey through 12 holes, sitting at five under par. Six players are tied for third, some having already completed impressive rounds of 67.

Kobori joins ace club without the prize

New Zealander Kazuma Kobori also recorded a hole-in-one, this time on the 17th hole. However, only the 11th hole was eligible for the BMW prize. Kobori, originally from Japan, finished with a 69 and is tied for 22nd.
